The primary responsibility of this position is to develop and deliver commercial software products for external use. Incumbent has extensive experience in one or more technologies such as web, Java, .Net, Graphical User Interface, special technologies, database technologies. Incumbent has in-depth knowledge across a broad spectrum of programming languages and techniques and applies both existing and new technologies in developing solutions. General Job Duties  Design, plan and develop solutions based on industry requirements.  Resolve complex design problems.  Establish testing procedures to ensure application is thoroughly tested before release.  Assist in establishing program budget and timelines; manage program within budget and time constraints.  Mentor other software engineers.  Perform other duties as required. Education/Experience Requirements  Masters and/or PhD. in Computer Science, related field or equivalent experience.  12-14+ years of experience in software development and database design.  In-depth understanding of one or more high level programming languages.  Thorough knowledge of one or more technologies (e.g., web, Java, .Net, Graphical User Interface, spatial technologies).  Thorough knowledge of development and architecting solutions with Search Engine technologies such as FAST, SharePoint with FAST, Apache Lucene, Attivio  Development and architecture experience building software to integrate content from Content Management systems to Product delivery platforms  Experience performing R&D for researching next technology platforms for Search and Content Management systems  Experience creating presentations and evaluation papers to present research findings to senior management  Familiar with GEO special applications and integration with search  Demonstrated project and program management experience including budgeting and managing timelines.  Must be able to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.  Professional certification as warranted."
