You will take ownership of day to day trouble ticket rectification and new activations as required. The primary voice platform is Sonus soft switch allied with Tekelec Eagle 5 STP switch (Any voice vendor experience is acceptable). Although the role is primarily in voice switching, it is expected that involvement in on-site project builds would be required, along with configuration and testing of numerous transmission platforms; e.g. Newbridge / Alcatel 3600, Ciena Core Stream, OME6500 and JDSU DWDM platforms, Ciena Core Director, Turin DACCS 2000 & TA200, plus Veraz DCME and amongst others. You will be required to participate in an on-call rota (24x365) and there may be some requirement to work hour of hours carrying out planned maintenance activities. There is a duty call out rota in place, (365 x 24) which each member of staff is expected to fulfill. The role will encompass a mixture of Operations and Maintenance engineering activity to support the smooth running of a Switch / Transmission exchange site. The Switch & Transmission Technician will provide installation, provision and maintenance of multiple telecommunications platforms, and subsequent services provided over them. Typical activities include: Implementation & maintenance of Voice, SS7 / Sigtran services, and associated transmission paths. On-time service turn up and fault rectification Monitoring and fault rectification Pre-installation build, configuration and test SDH & DWDM network expansion projects, equipment installation & acceptance testing. O&M support and maintenance for SDH, DWDM, Voice, PBX, SS7, SoftSwitch, VOIP based services Candidates must possess previous similar Telecommunications Engineering experience working within a Telecoms, Internet or other similar POP or Exchange site for an international carrier. Voice switching experience and C7 / STP skills are essential. Candidates should have some knowledge of international voice services including PABX, Softswitch, VOIP, SS7 & TDM etc, however training can be provided in this area for the right person with the above mentioned transmission and SDH skills. A good working knowledge of STP (Tekelec Eagle) process & physical cable and fibre optic installation and maintenance skills are desirable. Use of test platforms such as (or similar to) Fireberd, ANT-20, Spectra INET, GNN Net Test is ideal.
