It is the only Lhoist plant which produces both high quality calcium limestone and high quality dolomite. Current mineral reserves extend the life of mine in excess of 65 years. Apex is comprised of open pit/quarry mining, crushing operations, a major processing plant, and warehousing/distribution operations. Apex currently extracts from 3 quarries, with expansion plans to open additional quarries in the near future. The processing plant is designed to produce chemical grade raw materials as well as fine ground filler/extenders, using multi-step complex processes and equipment in a highly automated environment. POSITION SCOPE: Under the guidance of the Plant Manager, the Safety Supervisor will be hands-on in leading all aspects of safety for Apex including program development, training, continuous improvement, and compliance. This individual will be expected to spend time in the field in order to gain insight, and build and implement a training plan inclusive of observational and behavior-based safety best practices as well as implementing a peer review system. In addition, this person will be responsible for managing safety compliance and enforcing rules and regulations. This will include producing reports on tracking safety, incident reporting, MSHA visits and inspections. This position will also provide a degree of safety program assistance to the neighboring Henderson operation. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Responsible for compliance with MSHA regulations including employee training, delivery and documentation: • Maintain records in accordance with company/location policy • Investigate accidents, assist Health and Safety with reports to Workers’ Compensation and monitor Workers’ Compensation claims. • Assist Health and Safety in the completion and submittal of any company, local, state or federal agency reports • Provide the necessary documentation to Regional Safety Manager and Plant Manager to demonstrate personnel training • Train employees on relevant procedures, practices, and regulations 2.
