"Senior Legal & Compliance Counsel Europe Switzerland - Zürich Deadline to apply: 15 Jul 2011 Region Europe consists of seven Business Areas and counts 3300 employees. We are currently looking for a Senior Legal & Compliance Counsel Europe who should ideally start as soon as possible. The Senior Legal & Compliance Counsel Europe will be located in Zurich, Switzerland, and report to the Director Legal, Quality, Compliance and BD Europe. Challenges Your main challenge as Senior Legal & Compliance Counsel Europe will be to advise and counsel the European management and colleagues in the various affiliates for matters in relation to business ethics, pharma law, contracts, corporate governance and litigation, among other issues. Another main focus area of this position will be to update, roll-out and coordinate the European Compliance strategy and to follow-up on all strategy aspects. As Senior Legal & Compliance Counsel Europe you will be expected to have a keen sense of business dynamics and to contribute ad hoc advice on various legal and compliance issues. Key responsibilities include • Ensure compliance of Region Europe with local laws incl. pharma and competition laws, codes of conduct, policies and ethical business practices • Handle and coordinate claims and litigations • Prepare, review and negotiate contracts with business partners • Give ad hoc advice • Present on various legal topics to various audiences in the business areas • Represent Region Europe in the Quarterly Business Ethics Compliance Meeting Qualifications You have a law degree as well as a minimum of five years working experience in private practice or a multinational company (international working experience will be a plus). Experience in the life science industry is required. More specifically, you must have • Contract drafting and negotiation skills • Solid European legal knowledge, especially European Competition Law • High level of experience in Business Ethics Compliance • Experience in litigation or claims handling • Working knowledge of business and financial terminology and concepts • Working knowledge of various legal topics and willingness to expand that knowledge Also, the candidate must be an active team player with good interpersonal skills, flexible and supportive, and enjoy acting as a partner to internal stakeholders. He or she must have awareness of cultural differences, the ability to work in an international setting and communicate in a clear, concise and persuasive manner both orally and in writing in English. Good knowledge of the German language and Swiss legal system would be an asset. You should expect some travelling. Closing date to apply is 15th of July.
