"Please find the job description below and contact me if you have any questions at lina@tansoncorp.com Job Title: Bioinformatics System Programmer with extensive Java exp Location: Rochester, MN Duration: 06 Months (Contract) Pay Range: Negotiable Complete Description: Systems programmer forBioinformatics: Design and Systems Development Primary responsibilities include working as part of a team to provide application development and testing support for bioinformatics unit, including testing and development of genomics-related projects. 1. Design and Development Required Skills: • Extensive Java experience required (5+ years) • Some web service development experience • Websphere and distributed computing experience • RAD • Some OOA/OOD experience/UML experience • Application database design experience • Code version control systems (e.g. SVN) • Experience with writing & executing unit test cases(e.g. Junit) • SQL/database experience • Basic understanding of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) • Programming duties may include scripting languages, Java, and accessing relational databases systems • Automate and simplify processes. • Work with various technologies to develop software solutions as part of research infrastructure. Basic Qualifications: • Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or related field plus five years of experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered. • Excellent Java skills • Skills in common life sciences scripting languages such as Perl or Groovy • Proficiency in Unix and Linux • Knowledge of system design principles, software development methodologies, and computer programming • Knowledge of Systems Architecture • Willing to work in a team environment as well as being comfortable working independently with minimal supervision. • Highly motivated, willing to learn and implement leading edge technologies. • Possess excellent analytical, problem-solving, & technical design skills • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills along with analytical, problem-solving, and technical design skills. Desired Skills: • DDQB experience • UML experience Other Qualifications: • Experience in the following areas helpful: gene expression, genotyping, DNA sequencing, pharmacogenomics, proteomics and cytogenetics. Behavior Characteristics: Must have 5+ years of experience creating & testing Java apps, preferably with Bioinformatics/genomics experience. Require Java, UNIX, OOA/OOD, UML. Bioinformatics and analyst skills preferred.
