"Our client, a well-known business with an established presence and reputation for leading the market with regards to its technological innovations, is seeking an experienced data privacy lawyer to start in January for a 6-month period. Key responsibilities will include: • Helping to ensure compliance with relevant UK and EC laws and regulations in respect of: Data Protection and privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations as well as other areas of information law, Anti-Terrorism Crime & Security Act and requests for lawful disclosure • Leading the legal aspects of any licensing or notification requirements regarding information law obligations • Providing support to colleagues in relation to information law-related disputes or complaints and drafting and negotiating agreements in relation to the same • Helping to develop an information governance structure and assisting with creating and communicating privacy, data protection, information law and information security policies • Providing support with regards to customer abuse management issues, including negotiation with rights holders and industry associations. As this is a sole role you will be the main point of contact for advice relating to data protection, data sharing and privacy law, so not only must you have the experience and gravitas to handle these matters and to work largely unsupervised, you should also have the ability to communicate complex legislation into pragmatic and concise language to a non-legal audience. We are seeing a qualified lawyer with a strong private practice background (and ideally some time spent in-house) and expert knowledge of data protection and privacy law (both UK & EC), along with good commercial drafting and negotiating skills. Telecoms experience would be highly advantageous. This is an exciting time to join a prominent and thriving business. There may be possible extension of the contract up to 12 months.
