And everything that is shipped-, is used by 10 million people. • Requires a deep understanding of technology, plus a strong attitude towards shipping. You will find your colleagues know a thing or two about shipping and technology, too. • Some opinions on software development we have: - The problem picks the programming language, not the other way around. C++ and Java versus Python, Ruby and PHP: it’s a matter of problem domain. - Programmers need to learn a new programming language at least once every 2 years. Stay sharp, don’t end up on the Cobol graveyard. - Optimizing efficiency and productivity is a constant focus. Technology overview Hyves runs a substantial operation in terms of volume, with over 9 million monthly visitors, 350.000 concurrent chat users, and ±3500 servers. The main technology stack is PHP, Python, NGINX, MySQL and Memcached running on Gentoo. High-volume key-value stores take care of persistency; Hadoop is used for massive parallel processing. Our services we provide include toolbars (FF/IE), desktop clients (Qt C++), several mobile clients (iPhone/Android/Blackberry) and the OpenSocial API. The position: Mobile Developer The mobile developer will design, code, test and deploy native Java/C/C++/Objective C applications for mobile phones and tablet devices. Mobile social networking applications includes applications for location based services, photo browsing & uploading, messages, chat and other social networking features. The mobile team develops 3 platforms natively, iPhone, Android and Blackberry, and we consider the mobile website the 4th main platform with which we aim to address the other part of the mobile and tablet platform spectrum. We believe that great mobile applications are developed by people who have the skills to control the whole technology stack, client and server, therefore development in the mobile team also includes building the backend API's and smartly scaling the serverfarm for mobile apps. Requirements • Minimum of an MSc in IT or equivalent field • 3+ years Java/C++/Objective-C development experience, preferably in developing and shipping mobile applications for the iPhone, BlackBerry or Android • Broad knowledge and experience with other modern OO languages like Java, C# or Ruby. • Real world OO Design experience and up-to-date knowledge of Design Patterns. • Real Scrum/Agile development experience • Broad IT knowledge and understanding of Operating Systems, Networks and Databases • Bonus 1: Hands-on with Extensive experience with Linux, PHP, Web 2.0 technologies, App Servers/LAMP, MySQL (or MS-SQL, Oracle, etc.) • Bonus 2: Hand-on experience with HTML, JavaScript and CSS. • Proficient English speaker Moving to the Netherlands?
