Provides training and oversight for scrap sorting activities. Responsible for the sales and disposal of any scrap not utilized by the organization. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Primary responsibility is for purchasing raw materials to feed metals processing unit. Other duties may be assigned. • Sources copper scrap suitable for feed into the process streams or for resale after processing. • Trains operators in the sorting of incoming shipments. • Prepares any documents or reports on all purchases and sales of scrap to facilitate the required activities of the Purchasing and Accounting Departments in performing their functions in that regard. • Analyzes market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepares market analysis reports. • Develops and maintains good working relationships with current and future suppliers, as well as the non-ferrous scrap industry in general. Actively participates in industry organization conferences and meetings to support buying and selling activities. • Actively seeks additional, new sources of appropriate supply, aimed at increasing throughput and improving margins. • Arranges for disposal of surplus materials. • Follow the company's safety policies and procedures EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university. • Must have 5-10 years of experience in the non-ferrous scrap industry, to include buying, selling, processing, sorting. • Knowledge of both the export and domestic markets for buying and selling will be an asset. SKILLS REQUIRED • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages. • Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, financial reports and legal documents. • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. COMPUTER APPLICATION SKILLS • Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook; Proficiency with each application is required prior to assumption of the position. REASONING ABILITY • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time to visit raw material plant sites, maintain working relationships with suppliers, attend educational workshops and participate in professional societies to maintain professional and technical knowledge."
