General Comments Our client has an internal Organizational Development learning organization that exists to provide professional and technical skills training to its employees so they can enhance their individual development. • These opportunities include developmental courses, in-house computer classes, and a reference library with books and other learning materials. • The Design and Development Leader will be a part of the learning organization, and be responsible for the management of learning solution design and development, including the management of the Instructional Designers, design processes, and tools. • The leader will drive performance management and development plans for the team and ensure proper prioritization and workload management. • Of utmost importance, the leader will ensure that all learning solutions demonstrate sound instructional design principles, utilize the appropriate methodology for instruction, and provide opportunities for practice and application. • Finally, the leader will have full accountability for the following: the organization learning solution currency/maintenance, design/development processes (e.g. Tollgate), tools (e.g. Build Forecast/View of the Queue), and vendor adherence to standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Manages performance against objectives and serves as an ongoing coach providing timely and work-related feedback to the team. • Supervises the day-to-day activity of the Instructional Design team (aka “Build” team) including project planning, priority setting, and workload balancing. • Removes obstacles that impede instructional design/development progress. • Escalates issues as needed. • Serves as an ongoing instructional design coach: reviews design documents and drives the team to use more innovative approaches, including eLearning, social media, etc. • Ensures use of sound instructional design principles that are interactive and require learner practice/application. • Owns and drives the Instructional Design Tollgate process and final signoff on learning solutions before implementation (including instructor-led pilots/dry runs, eLearning testing and quality assurance, etc.) • Analyzes existing prioritization, project tracking and time tracking tools to allocate resources and ensure maximum utilization of available capacity. Assigns work based on level of expertise vs. availability. • Champions process rigor with the team, and holds the team accountable for complying with required standardization and documentation. • Partners with the Performance Consulting team to support client engagement work; ensures alignment of high-level and detailed design/development with Front-End Needs Analysis (FEA). • Partners with the Sourcing Specialist to ensure that purchased or custom-designed solutions meet internal design/development and quality standards and comply with the company’s brand guidelines. • Partners with the Technology Specialist to thoroughly understand the capabilities and functionality of the Learning Management System (LMS) and authoring tools (e.g. Unison, Captivate, etc.), and uses this knowledge to drive innovative learning solution design/development."
