View company name and apply directly at: http://bit.ly/oOgkkx Job Description: We are seeking a Communications Director to manage and direct the organization's internal and external communications, supervise staff, develop communication strategies, and serve as the key spokesperson and media contact for the organization. Responsibilities: • Responsible for developing and directing California’s campaign communications, media strategy, programs, and message research and development under the supervision of the Executive Director. • Supervises the work of communications staff and consultants. • Coordinates with the Political and Government Relations Departments on strategies, legislative priorities, budgets, resource allocations, staffing, and other issues. • Directs development and delivery of campaign communications and media assistance and capacity building for local unions. • Directs development and delivery of campaign communications and media support to executive board members. • Directs development and implementation of ways to use new technology for campaign communications and media. • Directs management of Campaign Communications Department, including planning, budgeting, hiring, and project management, and coordinates with department directors on those issues. • Directs strategies and activities to improve the public image and visibility of the labor movement and to maintain effective relations with statewide media. Qualifications: • Must be able to provide management support to local leaders and local staff during legislative and political efforts. • Must be able to handle multiple "priority" projects simultaneously and set and meet deadlines. • Extensive knowledge of policy and political campaign communications strategies preferred. • Demonstrated knowledge of electronic and print media systems, advertising techniques, production of printed and audiovisual materials. • Demonstrated ability to manage effective relationships with union leaders and staff, news media, and allied organizations. • Reports to the Executive Director • Bachelor’s degree preferred • Ten plus years of experience in campaign communications, media relations, public affairs, or related work, including at least five years managing strategy, planning, and program development • Previous experience with the labor movement, government or other advocacy organizations. • Previous experience with policy, political and organizing campaigns preferred."
