Develops and evaluates equipment specifications for injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment Develops, evaluates, updates and maintains the process parameters for injection molded product Participates in engineering design reviews of new molded products to evaluate manufacturability Evaluates cycle times and part and runner weights, to compare actual values to the standard values in our ERP system, to ensure up-to-date information for costing Performs material searches for internal and external customers, to facilitate the selection of proper plastic resins for applications Experience in biocompatible grades of resins including PEEK, Polysulphone, Silicone and others. Creates, documents and trains associates on process documentation as it relates to the molding process Creates, documents and trains associates on procedural documentation as it relates to operating procedures (work instructions, operation sheets) Troubleshoots the injection molding processes when problems arise, utilizing 5Why analysis to get to the root cause of the problem Follows quality systems procedures Utilizes the tools of Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiments for evaluation and improvement of process robustness and part quality Trains associates on proper molding techniques and processes Evaluates and updates the current Preventive Maintenance checklists and schedules for the injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment, to reduce downtime Establishes spare parts inventory for all molding equipment, to reduce downtime Works closely with the maintenance and tool room associates for any and all of the above ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs, with the Safety Manager, ergonomic analyses of various molding cells Works towards reducing mold and material changeover times Works towards improving ventilation at each molding machine to reduce fumes KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Able to express oneself clearly and effectively in written and oral form Able to work as part of a team Able to work independently with a minimum of supervision, is a self-starter Must be a hands-on individual Knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office) Analytical and troubleshooting skills, including pareto analysis, statistical analysis tools, and design of experiments Able to work with outside vendors (plastic resins, equipment) Knowledge of injection molding processes and equipment Basic knowledge of SPC Able to work in ISO environment Able to work in FDA certified environment Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering or equivalent 5-10 years hands-on processing experience in injection molding, insert molding a plus Knowledge of tooling and resins Experience in an ISO 9000 and ISO 13485 environment Experience in FDA compliance in a molding environment Experience in micro molding and micro insert molding Interest in quality control, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques, and teamwork"
