"Bazaarvoice is looking for a Lead Front-End Engineer to help build a new team to own the Front-End/UI of the Bazaarvoice Product Suite. Our candidates should have a strong perspective on quality JavaScript, Markup and structure for Designability. Then, have a wealth of experience using frameworks and tools to implement this perspective in large web applications. We are looking for someone who can make the big decisions regarding the construction of our largest new client-facing application. You will be responsible for architecting the application at a high-level and begin working on the specifics with a team that you will help build around yourself, using the architecture and tools that you have chosen. This application is highly data-driven and requires data visualization, client-side templates, as well as HTML5-pushstate style new-page loading. You will work in tandem with our Product Design team and be responsible for defining roles for new developers that will work with you in this new Center of Excellence. You will also be supported by other teams responsible for gathering and providing interesting data into the application. Performance is critical given the scale of Bazaarvoice application deployments. We are currently live on well over 1000 of the largest sites on the web and see peak traffic over 20k requests per second. Download size and browser responsiveness are key elements that must be optimized. As a result, you must have a keen sense of the implications of your decisions across browsers, and a passion for adopting new standards and browsers as they become available. Skills and Experience Necessary for the Role: Your experience must be broad. Since you will be deciding many of the tools and frameworks that the company will build upon, you should have a good idea of the options that are out there. You don't have to fully understand our current technologies, but you must be able to get up to speed quickly on items like the following: - jQuery / jQuery UI - Sproutcore 2 - RequireJS / AMD Modules - Facebook APIs - Protovis / D3.js - Less CSS - easyXDM (or similar) - plain JavaScript Bazaarvoice embraces the opensource culture and encourages candidates to submit links to their github accounts with projects they've built. We also encourage open-sourcing appropriate portions of code that are created internally. As a result, having a good relationship with various communities (like JavaScript) is a plus."
